Cassettes are making a comeback, and as Backburner prepares to release their back catalogue on the old school format, the crew pay homage to the medium most members used to make their first music available, and for the rest it was definitely important for their early explorations of indie hip hop. A funky, bass-heavy boom bap beat from newest member Peter Project provides a strong foundation for ‘burner members Ghettosocks, Savilion, Mister E, Timbuktu, Wordburglar, More Or Les, Chokeules and featured guest Nilla, who drops a standout verse, to posse up and make a Big Bang, boosted on the chorus with cuts by the turntablist tag team of Peter and Uncle Fester. A throwback to crew cuts like “The Symphony” and “Scenario”, the wordplay that dominates “Press Eject” is liable to wear out the rewind button on your stereo system. Does your deck eat cassettes?
