There are collaborations that feel like fate, and the duo of P-Ro and Chuck Chan is definitely one of them. On their new longplayer “2nd Coat” they perfect the concept of “artistic rap” – in the truest sense of the word. While Chuck Chan provides his patented, dirty boom-bap sound that seems to come straight from the dark alleys of New York, P-Ro proves that he is an absolute all-rounder: He not only acts as a rapper, but is also responsible for the entire writing, recording, mixing, mastering and even the artwork. The album is a thematically coherent work that consistently runs through the metaphor of painting - from “Wet Paint” to “Old Brush”. The list of feature guests in particular reads like a who's who of the current underground elite: GeneralBackPain, G Fam Black and Sankofa give the project additional gravitas. “2nd Coat” is more than just a sequel; it's a layer of pure talent and hard work that cements both artists' status in the independent sector.
