Anno 1981 is a surprise collaboration that reconnects two artists whose chemistry has already left a mark on international Hip Hop. New Jersey lyricist Cymarshall Law—known for his global performances, sharp pen, and message-driven artistry—first linked with Swedish producer Frigstep as part of the production duo The Beatnikz, the team behind the respected album Freedom Express Line.
Years later, Frigstep returns on his own, producing an entire new EP for Cymarshall Law. The reunion wasn’t announced years in advance—it arrives suddenly, intentionally, and with the raw spark of two creatives who know exactly what they sound like together.
Both artists were born in 1981, and while the EP isn’t a strict concept record about that year, the spirit of their shared era is unmistakable. It’s the sound of two Hip Hoppers from different countries who grew up under the same cultural sky—boom bap tapes, golden‑era values, and the belief that Hip Hop is a craft you live, not a trend you chase. That shared foundation gives Anno 1981 a familiar pulse that heads from that era will feel immediately, even as the music pushes forward.
The project blends Cymarshall Law’s trademark truth‑driven lyricism with Frigstep’s textured, soulful production—modern, but rooted in the lineage they both come from. It’s a cross‑continental link-up built on respect, history, and the hunger to create something real.
Anno 1981 isn’t nostalgia. It’s two artists born in the same year, reconnecting at the perfect moment to remind listeners what Hip Hop feels like when it’s made with intention, skill, and lived experience.
