About DOPESICKFLY
DOPESICKFLY is a band built on friendship, chance encounters, and a deep love of groove and soul.
Frontman Ant Thomaz, a singer-songwriter with Creole heritage, is known for his eclectic musical style. Nearly a decade ago in Glasgow, he met singer Wendy Rae at an open mic and was struck by the power and feeling in her voice. When they sang together, the chemistry was instant. What began as friends playing small shows quickly felt like family, with Ant and Wendy sharing lead vocals and a musical bond that reached beyond the stage.
As momentum grew, DOPESICKFLY emerged as a genre-blurring collective, blending soul, funk, hip hop, folk, and rock into a sound rooted in groove and emotional honesty. Within two whirlwind years, they were performing alongside artists they had grown up idolising, including Roy Ayers, Kool & the Gang, Sugarhill Gang, and Big Country.
After burning bright, the band paused as life pulled people in different directions, but the connection between Ant and Wendy never faded. Years later, at a birthday gathering, Ant posed the question: what if they brought the band back?
More chance meetings led to a new lineup: Gary Mulligan on bass, Ross Alexander blending funk grooves with indie rock on guitar, genre-hopping drummer Asim Rasool bringing power and global rhythm, and Jonni Slater adding rich textures on keys. Together, they began shaping new material that honours their roots while pushing forward.
Today, DOPESICKFLY remains what it was always meant to be — a collective driven by friendship, spontaneity, and fearless fusion.
Six musicians. Many styles. One shared pulse.
