Mondo Slade names his album after the legendary cheat device of the 8- and 16-bit era: the Game Genie was the cartridge that rewrote game rules, activated infinite lives, and skipped levels. As a rap metaphor it carries double weight whoever owns the Game Genie plays the same game as everyone else, but by their own rules. Mondo Slade has built an underground reputation over years for style-conscious, reference-rich rap interlocking blaxploitation aesthetics with pop culture knowledge. Eleven tracks with no further published credits classification has to stay careful, but the title alone shows an artist choosing his nostalgia references precisely rather than scattering them arbitrarily.
