“Narcotic Athletics” is the second strike in Datkid’s current run with Illinformed and Dumb Logic, following “Smoked Out.” The title holds the conflict that drives the record: intoxication and discipline, damage and stamina, the body being pushed forward while the mind carries everything it has survived. Datkid has always sounded most convincing when honesty and menace occupy the same bar, and this track leaves that tension untouched. Illinformed and Dumb Logic avoid crowding him. The production is built to knock, but its real job is to keep a hard pocket open for Datkid’s voice. SLUGS takes the same approach visually, staying close to the performance instead of manufacturing spectacle around it. The result feels like part of a deliberate new run rather than another disconnected single raw Bristol rap with its scars still visible.
