All four Souls of Mischief voices on new material is an event in itself – the Clean Getaway EP pairs the Hieroglyphics mainstays with 1999 WRITE THE FUTURE, and A-Plus, Phesto, Opio and Tajai trade verses with guests Jay Worthy, Phonte of Little Brother, Dame D.O.L.L.A. and Brookfield Duece. We already ran the "Nothing Without You" video on these pages; now the full picture is out, with "Believers," "Road Runnin" and "Up With the Sun" rounding out the set. This isn't a one-off link-up either. The EP continues a partnership that started with Souls of Mischief's first collaboration on 1999 WRITE THE FUTURE's 2024 album hella – a record whose guest list stretched from Ghostface Killah and De La Soul to BADBADNOTBAD-adjacent territory – so the chemistry here comes pre-tested. What's striking is how Oakland-centric the project stays despite the global framing: Souls, Dame D.O.L.L.A. and Brookfield Duece all pull from the same Bay lineage, with Phonte and Jay Worthy as the out-of-town guests who fit the pocket anyway. For the wax heads: a limited-edition pressing on translucent orange and green swirl vinyl is coming exclusively through Get On Down and Fat Beats, shipping well after the digital release – plan accordingly. Thirty-plus years past their debut, Souls of Mischief still rap like a unit that rehearses. Few groups from any era can say that.
