REKS x Hazardis Soundz "Bodega Bop" (feat. Capone) [VIDEO]

Twelve years after Eyes Watching God, REKS and Hazardis Soundz are working together again – "Bodega Bop," featuring Capone, is the first major reunion of the Showoff lyricist from Lawrence, Massachusetts and the Miramar, Florida producer since their 2014 joint album, and it made its world debut on Shade 45 before the video went wide. The chemistry logic holds up. Hazardis Soundz, whose engineering work heads may know from the Drink Champs podcast with N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN, builds a cinematic, hard-hitting backdrop; REKS, one of New England's most consistent pens, sets the table with the opening verse and hook, all percussive delivery and zero wasted syllables. Then Queensbridge steps in: Capone of Capone-N-Noreaga locks down the second verse with the kind of unfiltered street poetry that's been his signature since CNN's heyday. There's a quiet symmetry in Hazardis working N.O.R.E.'s podcast and Capone appearing on his record – the CNN universe closing a loop. Queen Philosophical directs the video, keeping the energy raw and distinctly East Coast despite the track's Florida production address. Notably, the single and video are being pushed first through the artists' own websites – direct-to-audience, no middleman, the independent playbook executed properly. A bodega anthem built by a Massachusetts writer, a Florida producer and a Queensbridge veteran shouldn't feel this cohesive. It does. If this is the warm-up for a second REKS/Hazardis project, consider us officially watching.
