The Mothership EP by Switch & Moka Only

Legendary Vancouver rapper Moka Only and The Islands' Switch join forces to release "The Mothership EP" on Friday, February 2, 2024 via URBNET. The six-track EP delivers a dark, ominous, yet melodic sound. It was self-recorded in Vancouver and Victoria, while NATO Down mixed the record at Edmonton's Up in Arms studio. The album artwork and packaging were designed and painted by Moka Only.
Switch and Moka will release the first single from The Mothership EP, titled Who Are We, on January 12, 2024. "We want listeners to think of the project as a TV series, where each song is an episode and each episode takes on a different beat genre - from upbeat and funky to dark and gritty. The goal of the project was to make it sound like we were creating the project in the same room. To bridge the space, we got creative with our writing and used daily voicemails to share ideas.
Switch and Moka Only first collaborated in 2020, releasing a joint single titled "Skeletons. Shortly after, the idea of working on an EP together was born. Finally, in July 2023, the idea came to fruition and they began recording what was originally intended to be a four-track project. Still without an album title, and with the idea that there might be a few more tracks to pump out, Switch sent Moka some additional beats - one of which was titled 'Mothership'. The word resonated and was incorporated into the song's chorus, becoming the EP's title track and inspiring the album's artwork.
