Apollo Brown has been one of Detroit's defining beat architects for years, and this instrumental album is his philosophy in its purest form. The title is meant as a mantra, and the liner notes spell it out: we celebrate outcomes and ignore process, admire the trophy and forget the training, applaud the finished masterpiece while overlooking the countless imperfect drafts that came before it. The diamond only forms under pressure and time – and Apollo explicitly asks you to listen with exactly that thought in mind: the color isn't perfect, the cut isn't symmetrical, the clarity might be cloudy – but the process is tried and true. Fifteen tracks, entirely produced and arranged by him, nearly all sitting in the three-minute window – that uniformity is signature, not coincidence: loops as emotional frames, drums that sit deep without begging for attention. Released on Escapism, with three vinyl variants, CD, and cassette for the physical heads; "Angels & Diamonds" led the rollout as the first single.
