A werewolf concept album announced through a DJ pack – Chaka Boy's "The Beast Within," the second single from his upcoming A Canadian Werewolf in Alaska on Hand Solo Records, arrives in six versions: original, remix, radio edit, two instrumentals and an acapella. That format choice is its own statement. Acapellas and instrumentals on the table means the record is built for turntablists and beatmakers to take apart, which is exactly the audience this kind of horror-flavored underground rap deserves. Thematically, the single works the duality angle: good versus evil, positive versus negative, the moment animal instinct takes the wheel. Chaka Boy's writing, per the release, is about navigating fog, keeping your guard up and letting raw truth surface – werewolf mythology as a frame for the internal fight everyone recognizes. Project producer The Dirty Sample handles the entire album, and this track is positioned as its blueprint: an atmospheric mood piece marking, as the campaign puts it, the moment something hidden wakes up. Mastering comes from Dorc. Concept albums live or die on commitment, and announcing yours with a howl and a full DJ-service package suggests Chaka Boy and The Dirty Sample are all the way in. For DJs: grab the acapella. For everyone else: the full moon is scheduled.
