Daniel Son x Asun Eastwood x Futurewave "Catch A Limit" [VIDEO]

Toronto's Daniel Son, Asun Eastwood and Futurewave first did this as a trio back in 2018 with Physics of Filth, and "Catch A Limit" confirms that the chemistry wasn't a one-off. Futurewave produces; the two MCs take it from there. The beat is textbook Futurewave: a grim, textured loop with the drums pushed forward, no melodic comfort, built to make a rapper sound harder than he is. Both MCs know how to use it. Daniel Son rides the pocket with the confrontational, slightly slurry delivery he's been refining across a decade of collaborative albums, and his closing lines are the record's sharpest: "The fall never comes from an enemy / cuz it comes from the friends who pretend to be." Asun Eastwood born in Belize City, raised in Toronto counters with a tighter, more clipped cadence, packing internals into short bars and leaving air between them. The two don't sound alike, which is the point. The hook ("Who got the light? Who got the spark?") is a chant rather than a melody, and it recurs often enough to structure the record without softening it. Lucas Espinola shot it, Son Tzu cut it, and the camera work is as unglamorous as the beat. "Catch A Limit" is the latest single from NOM DE GUERRE, the trio's album due later this month through Wav.God Music, the label Futurewave runs with Daniel Son. Two singles in after "Clean Up Nice" and "Dejounte Murray" this is shaping up as the most significant thing any of the three has put out since the first record.
