Mutant Academy took a decade to release their first proper album—and now the Richmond collective is moving at the opposite speed. *We'll Swap It Out, Vol. 2* lands ten tracks deep just two months after Vol. 1 arrived in August, turning the mixtape series into the fast workshop counterpart to the long-gestating full-length. The context makes the pace meaningful. The collective features rappers Big Kahuna OG, Henny L.O. and rapper-producer Fly Anakin alongside producers Ohbliv, Graymatter, Foisey, Sycho Sid, Ewonee and Unlucky Bastards, with dozens of internal collaborations since their 2014 formation—but their debut album was the first project to extensively feature every MC with production from throughout the group. That record, *Keep Holly Alive*, arrived through Roc Nation Distribution and paid tribute to the one-bedroom apartment members shared for five years. Fly Anakin, who co-founded the collective, has built his own parallel catalog from Richmond in the meantime. A group with that much internal surface area—three MCs, six-plus producers—is built for exactly this format: swap verses, swap beats, keep the tape moving. The title says as much. Track-by-track credits for Vol. 2 have not been published yet, so who swaps what with whom remains the open question; with this roster, that question is the appeal.
