Heliocopta & Retrogott "Theodizee" [VIDEO]

The hook asks a question German rap rarely bothers with: if God allows all these bad rappers to exist, why is there no food left for the real MCs? Heliocopta and Retrogott call the track "Theodizee" theodicy, the problem of a just god in an unjust world and then apply it to the domestic rap economy. It's a joke with a working brain behind it, which is roughly the operating system of the whole album. Rap Knowledge & Bullshit is twelve tracks, produced entirely by Retrogott with Heliocopta on the vocals, out through New Def and HHV. The division of labour is the classic one and both parties know what they're doing: Retrogott builds lean, sample-driven loops that stay out of the way, Heliocopta raps in a flat, unhurried register that lets the sarcasm land dry. No hooks designed for playlists, no polish on the seams. When he says the Americans would like a rapper like him and the Germans already have one, it's not a boast, it's a complaint about the market and the album title admits both halves are true. The production choice is worth noting: this is loop-based, dust-in-the-needle music made by someone who repairs his own 12-bit gear, and it sounds like it. Repetition is the point. Verses accumulate rather than build to a chorus, and the record earns its length by keeping the writing specific career maths, TikTok, the police, the price of staying independent. Limited to 500 copies on orange vinyl. Appropriate: this is music for people who still flip a record over.
