P-Ro "villainelle novella" [EP]

P-Ro is a regular in this column by now as producer of Sankofa's "Seven Seconds or Less" album, as beat supplier and feature on B1 The Architect's "Grime Suppliers." Now the counterpart: a fully solo project where he writes, produces, records, performs, mixes, masters and designs the artwork. The title is a triple pun: the villanelle is a strict 19-line poetic form, "villain" the antagonist, novella the short narrative. And that's exactly how the project is built P-Ro himself describes stream-of-consciousness writing over drumless beats blended into each other, implying one long melodic spoken-word piece rather than traditional songs. Sole guest: G Fam Black on "duper" marking the Brockton lyricist's umpteenth appearance in this network (Hanzo Bladez, Mike Titan, B1 The Architect, Eclyse, Crotona P). Eight tracks, none past 3:37. The drumless construction isn't trend-following here: it serves the declared poetic structure.
