The research pays off double here. Pounds448 comes from Rochester, New York, running under the LordMobb banner Flee Lord's collective, extending this column's Rochester line (Azariah, JD Riggz, the Dubland Underground trio) by another name. "Varsity Blues" is entirely self-produced, featuring Coca Lavoe, 448 Brad and 007 Red. Pounds himself already appeared here as a guest on RJ Payne's "ANYBODY CAN GET IT." But the real find is the tracklist: the album title quotes the 1999 football film, and every song title is a sports-movie character "Jonathan Moxon" (Van Der Beek's quarterback from Varsity Blues), "Rick Vaughn" (Charlie Sheen's "Wild Thing" from Major League, the track fittingly titled "Wild Things"), "Luther Lavay" (The Program), "Rudy Ruettiger" (Rudy), and "Neon Bodeaux" itself Shaquille O'Neal's role from "Blue Chips" (1994): the raw country talent everyone wants to recruit. A complete hidden concept album about sports-film archetypes, explained by no press release. NueShotIt shoots and edits. Those who know the films read the album differently.
