Taran Richards & GnT "GnT | GIFTED" [VIDEO]

Revolutionary Records operates out of the North West of England, and "GnT | GIFTED" is the label doing what small labels actually do putting two regional MCs on a beat and letting the record stand without a campaign. Taran Richards and GnT share the billing, Bootleg built the beat, and Thundersound Productions handled the visuals and shared recording, mixing and mastering duties with Hollow Earth Productions. The track opens on a sung hook rather than a verse: "Yesterday I nearly sold my soul / I walked away / I took control." That's the whole thesis, and everything after it fills in the cost. Richards works in a clipped, conversational register, piling up spiritual imagery fire the world can't extinguish, forty days and forty nights, parting seas like Moses without ever tipping into sermon. The best line is the plainest: "Every breath I take is a gift from God." GnT's contribution sits in the call-and-response, and the two voices trade short phrases rather than full verses, which keeps three and a half minutes moving. Bootleg's production is unhurried and loop-based, mixed so the vocals sit forward appropriate for a record that's essentially a confession with a chorus. GnT records out of Carnforth and Richards out of Lancaster, and the pair have been releasing together for a while now; the chemistry sounds like it. Nothing here is aiming at the mainstream. For listeners who dig regional UK scenes rather than London press releases, this is worth the three minutes.
