Son of Tony’s early musical memories include joining MC Lyte onstage as a teenager and reciting her music. The Buffalo rapper now adds the official video for “False Idols” to his own catalogue, with production by Heirowayne and mixing and mastering by Standoutmusik. His 2021 album “Son on a Sunday” offers a more personal introduction to the artist behind this release. Speaking to UndergroundHipHopBlog that year, he explained that his work was a way to keep his late father’s name alive. On “Wet Stones,” featuring Tish Hyman, family responsibility became particularly concrete. He described wanting to help his mother and younger brother through cancer treatment and the financial pressure of trying to provide that care. In his artist statement on Apple Music, he identified that recording as a personal breakthrough following the loss of both parents and his brother. For listeners meeting him through “False Idols,” “Wet Stones” documents how the wish to provide for his family entered his writing.
