Audio Messiah & KHEYZINE "CHATGOD" [EP]

KHEYZINE is a French beatmaker working out of Bordeaux, and CHATGOD is his new six-track EP with Audio Messiah, an emcee from the Pen Lordz camp. KHEYZINE produced and arranged the whole thing and did the cover; BOSSY mixed and mastered. It arrived today, and it runs about sixteen and a half minutes. The title track shares its name with the project, and the running order makes the argument before you hear a bar. "Rage Against The Machines" opens. "A.I (Allah's Intelligence)" sits at three. "ChatGod" closes. Read together, the titles put machine intelligence and divine intelligence on opposite sides of the same question, with the pun on A.I. doing double duty artificial or Allah's, depending on which track you're on. That's my reading of the sequencing rather than a stated concept, but it's hard to hear it any other way. Four of the six tracks carry Pen Lordz features, and the duo's Fam Ross and Arsinel are named on the release. The two tracks without them "Black And White" at 2:13 and "Body Problem" at 1:16 are the shortest on the record, which suggests interludes rather than full songs, though the credits don't say. Six euros sixty-six, which is a deliberate number for a record about faith and machinery. For listeners who follow the Pen Lordz orbit, this is a producer-led entry point with a real idea behind it.
