Benny From The Sandlot & Stotty p "B.O.D" [ALBUM]

Five tracks, a little over thirteen minutes, and a release date at the end of the month which means this one is a pre-order, and nothing here has been heard yet. What's worth writing down is the partnership, because it's the second one and it didn't happen by design. Benny From The Sandlot works out of Hampton, Virginia. Stotty P is Canadian. Their first joint album, Bullpen, came out last September, and by both accounts it started with a single track. "I think we did one track, and it snowballed from there," Stotty said at the time. "After the first couple of songs, I think it was intended to be a shorter project, but we just kept it going." Benny's version is about adjustment rather than planning: "We really didn't approach this with a sound in mind; it kind of just happened organically. The more I worked with Stotty, the more familiar my ear became with his beat styles, and I just tried to feed off his energy and keep up." He also described the difficulty plainly "The real challenge was keeping up with him as an artist." Since then they haven't stopped working together. There's a four-way album with Mic Hoffa and Square 2 God, another collective record that ran here in the spring, and a Stotty P track featuring Benny released last month. Two emcees in different countries, releasing at a pace most local pairs don't manage. The tracklist is short and unadorned "Stay Awake," "Lowdown Rotten Dirty," "Culture," the title track, "Swan Song" with no guest features listed and, at this point, no production credits published, so none are named here. There's a listening party scheduled for release night. Benny's catalogue is full of baseball titles 9th Inning, Bullpen, Hit Stick and this one joins the run without explaining itself, which is consistent. We'll have the assessment when the record is actually out.
