The video is new; the album isn't. "Can't Let You Go" is track eight on Pedigree, the fourteen-track CRIMEAPPLE and MichaelAngelo record that landed back in September via Manteca Music so treat this as a late single pull rather than a new chapter. It's a good choice for one. MichaelAngelo builds the beat around a soul loop with the hook left intact, and Crimeapple rides it in his usual register: bilingual, unhurried, more interested in the texture of a phrase than in landing a punchline. He slips between English and Spanish mid-bar without signalling it, which after all these records is simply how he talks. The writing is street-level without being generic France, Austria, Kosovo, Serbia in the space of four bars, sunglasses and a burger spot in the next and the point isn't geography, it's appetite. MichaelAngelo's production gives him a loop that never resolves, so the verse just keeps circulating. The New Jersey MC (born in Colombia, raised in Hackensack) has been prolific to the point of being hard to track, which makes the album format worth paying attention to: Pedigree is a sustained argument rather than another batch of loosies, and this track is a fair sample of it. Shot and edited by Syberiantyger, no concept to speak of. Two and a half minutes, a loop and a rapper who knows what to do with one.
