This is the most honest album text in the batch, and it comes from someone qualified to write it. Shark the SOB operates out of London, Ontario, with more than thirty releases listed on his Bandcamp including "Every Villain Has A Story" with Hi-Q and "The Beastmode EP." That context reframes the project description entirely. It's about the questionable life choice of spending unreasonable amounts of time, money and energy making music almost nobody will hear. About getting older, lowering expectations, chasing validation from an algorithm that couldn't care less, and somehow still obsessing over every bar as though millions were waiting. Shark's conclusion: there are easier hobbies, probably cheaper ones too. But after all these years the point isn't success anymore. You make it because you have to. The credits reinforce exactly that. Shark writes, records, mixes and masters the record himself, with "The Greatest Stories" as the sole exception mixed by Myer Clarity, who also produces and features on it. Cover art and photography are his as well. Production splits across Moment UvTruth (three tracks), Mikhos (both "No Refunds" bookends), Shade Cobain on the title track, Know-it (two), Maxstrumentalist and Myer Clarity. Empuls, from the DJ Alkemy circle covered here recently, appears on "Walkman," while The Bad Seed takes "Misunderstood" with cuts from Jabba Tha Kut. Shade Cobain last surfaced in this column on Mr. Ripley's "Set It Off," Jabba Tha Kut in the DizzyDustin context. The architecture is deliberate: "No Refunds" (1:08) opens after the intro, "Still No Refunds" (1:08) closes the same piece as a frame, with the punchline buried in that one added word. Nothing refunded, nothing learned, still going.
