Prolific Wone has been running an eight-part film series across two connected albums, which is an unusually patient way to release a record. The first chapters belonged to God En Man, released late last year and produced entirely by Manage. "DANGEROUS" is part seven, and it sits on the companion album of the same name, which is out now. The series is styled after classic espionage cinema chapters rather than singles, each one revealing a piece of a narrative that only makes sense in sequence. Manage produces again, JimmyChiba directs with Wone, and the video was shot in London by apexzero and EOWENGLAND. Nonezeo recorded it, Soda Mousse mastered it, and it's released through i2i Music and Lab79. Who he is Wone is a founding member of End of the Weak, the global hip-hop platform built around the MC Challenge, and half of i2i, the New York group he formed with Vice Verses in the nineties. He's from the Lower East Side. That background matters here, because the writing on "DANGEROUS" is battle-tested rather than abstract dense internal rhyme, no concessions to a hook, and a vocabulary that treats politics and street economy as the same subject: "Repel politicians repulsive repugnant. Paper puppets reptilian all pungent." The chorus "This dangerous situation circumstance / Reposition resurface avoid the telegram target" works as both plot and thesis, which is the whole trick of the series. Previously covered here with "Die Lon," the third chapter. Seven of eight in, the structure is holding.
