Rap Noir "The Professional" [SINGLE]

Rap Noir is Black Hoodie and UnJust, and it's worth saying who that is: Black Hoodie is Tajai from Souls of Mischief and Hieroglyphics, working under an alias, and UnJust produces Chosen Few, First Light, and a long run of records besides. Since 2018 the project has been built as film noir rather than rap: Tajai narrates "tales of crime, vice and passion" instead of starring in them, and he's described the persona as sitting somewhere between Rod Serling and the Crypt Keeper the voice that introduces the story, not the one who commits it. The hitman monologue "The Professional" is exactly that, and it's the most disciplined thing in the catalogue. The hook is an instruction: "I get that call? You gotta go / If don't nobody know, don't nobody know / This ain't your amateur hour, I'm a professional / Have a seat, welcome to the murder show." Then the details that make it work "My office? A box with a cot and a weapon wall / Small kitchen, no children, no bitches, just a couple old benches." A contractor describing his workspace, and the banality is the point. The closing couplet is the sharpest in the whole piece: "I ain't paranoid I'm cautious / I ain't cheap murder costs / I ain't sloppy, I take pride in mine / I'm never late I be right on time." UnJust builds underneath with room for the voice to sit forward, and Tajai doesn't raise the volume once. The release itself It's the second single from the forthcoming WORK/RELEASE EP, and the rollout is genuinely unusual: the project pairs each single with its own customised Carhartt jacket colourway, made with the Osaka design outfit Viva La Mort. This is the second one gravel duck, "Viva La Rap Noir" crest limited to a hundred, four hundred dollars, made to order. The single ships with two versions of the same track, the second labelled "Final Master Mix." That's a strange and interesting way to release music in 2026, and it fits a project that has always treated itself as a film rather than a discography.
