Spoda & Passport Rav "Ayo Aite" [VIDEO]

Spoda raps out of Long Island. Passport Rav produces, working between New Jersey and Brooklyn. The two met through The Walkers, a New York collective of rappers and producers, and the connection was made by Wavy da Ghawd the Chicago producer whose run of collaborative albums has quietly become one of the more reliable things in the underground. After a few songs together, the feeling was apparently that Rav and Spoda should make a project. That project is called Strong Isl, New Jerz, and "Ayo Aite" is the first single from it. Two minutes forty-three, premiered this week. Beyond that, almost nothing is published: no production credit on the release itself, though Rav is the producer of the pair; no mix or mastering details; no tracklist or release date for the project yet. That's worth saying plainly rather than filling in. What can be assessed is the premise. Regional pairing records work when the two places actually sound like different things, and Long Island and New Jersey/Brooklyn do different tempos, different histories, twenty miles apart. The title names both, which suggests the project knows what it's doing.
