Before Daddy Kev founded Alpha Pup, a Phoenix Orion record helped get Celestial Recordings off the ground. Orion’s single “Disclosure” comes from an MC whose solo catalogue predates his collaborations with Linkin Park and Canibus. Born and raised in Brooklyn, Orion recorded his debut album Zimulated Experiencez at the Odditorium in Mount Washington, California, in 1998. Hive, Daddy Kev, Hermes and DJ Rhettmatic contributed production. In a 2016 interview, Kev recalled making Celestial’s first record with Orion and quickly selling an initial 1,000 copies. CDs followed, then a distribution deal with Caroline and a $25,000 advance. Celestial subsequently released records by Fat Jack and other artists around Project Blowed. Orion later appeared on Linkin Park’s Reanimation and teamed with Canibus for the joint album Def Con Zero.
