About “Prime Conspiracy”

A collaboration of conspiracy-minded Canadian compatriots Conspiracy and District Prime (nka No Town Vandal) with BC ex-pat DJ Matto (currently living in Japan) providing the dark, spacey production and name-dropping cuts. Conspiracy takes up the bulk of the vocals on this one but both he and Prime deliver a dense display of lyrical wordplay and bold braggadocio in their own unique styles. An authentic, unorthodox audio art attack. And also the second and last single in a collab project put on hold and now never to be completed. Rest in Peace, Conspiracy.

About Conspiracy

A founding member of Supreme Being Unit with twin brother Mindbender Supreme and producer Kelron Magnanimous aka Nick Knox, releasing The First Great Pyramid in 1996 as a trio before continuing on as a duo with their classic sophomore album Mental Reverse, Spiritual Rebirth (1997) eventually followed by In Space No One Can Hear You Rhyme (2010). Conspiracy has also released a large number of solo albums and collaborations with Legendary Entertainment and his own label, Astral Majesty Creations. He is also the subject of the documentary film Mars Project, an examination of his possession by interstellar demons intent on his destruction, also the inspiration for his album Sex Is the Key to Immortality. In 2023, Conspiracy transcended to a higher dimension. Rest in peace, King.

About District Prime

Like many in the rap game, District Prime has cycled through a few monickers, all in service to his evolution as an MC. Primordial Emcee was a founding member of Faction, a Toronto rap group that would release two albums and an EP before deciding each member should focus on solo work, and the group just slowly dissolved. Prime’s solo album was X-Faction 2: Reanimated, and featured heavily the production and raps of ex-Faction member Iron Wind. As District Prime, he would team with Iron Wind to form Primal Winds, releasing a further six albums, an EP, and a bunch of singles before their messy break up. These days he goes by No Town Vandal. Watch out for his NTV EP dropping soon.

Primal Winds - Crowd Control

With five albums and various singles behind them, Toronto duo Primal Winds provided a sample plate of their new musical direction with their Law Bent EP, and now it’s time to dig into the full 3-course meal with new album Crowd Control. With a blend of modern and old school vibes, Iron Wind and District Prime indulge in a variety of crowd-pleasing productions accompanied by multi-layered rhymes heavy in wordplay that ensure plenty of replay value. The music runs the gamut from high energy club jams through spacey, mellow grooves to electronic-tinged boom bap, and even a touch of reggae. As a product of our times, topics touched upon include censorship, free thought, government control, and rebellion, as well as the more classic hip hop subject matter of sexy ladies, battle raps and braggadocio, all sprinkled with nerdy and pop culture references. Primal Winds prove themselves as fun, loud, political, nerdy, and even a little bit street. While the duo could have cooked up this feast on their own, they invited a few other chefs into the kitchen. Exposing their love for the Wu, Prime and Wind are joined by iNTeLL, the son of U God, on “Where It’s At” and Judah Priest, an affiliate of Wu-Tang’s Brooklyn Zu, on “What You Started”, as well as frequent collaborator Warrzone (“Agenda”), Breaking Wreckords’ MLNY (“Won’t Back Down”), and Backburner’s More Or Les contributed cuts on “Agenda” and “Target Acquired”.  Crowd control can refer to a skill performers develop to engage with audiences or to a public security practice to manage large crowds to prevent riots. With Crowd Control, Primal Winds exerts the former and necessitates the latter. Now prepare to get loud!

Primal Winds - Can't Tell Me Nothin'

Here’s the plan: rock a jam for the fans! And Primal Winds do just that, making hearts stop with “Can’t Tell Me Nothin’”, the third single from their upcoming album, Crowd Control. Jam-packed with hidden messages, Iron Wind and District Prime drop multilayered rhymes and in-your-face punchlines with a dynamic delivery that rides the beat. Produced by Iron Wind, a rhythmic string loop dominates in an arrangement that also includes ghostly background vocals, sporadic g-funk-style high-pitch drops of frequencies, clock-like tick-tock drum lines, and a touch of reggae in the hook to provide that real rebel vibe. You can’t tell Primal Winds nothin’ ‘cuz they’re just that ill.

Primal Winds - Get Loud

Everybody in the place, it’s time to get loud! And whether in the club or at the con, this nerd rap dance track will reward adventurous DJs with that crowd response they want. The Iron Wind beat bounces and bangs! The bass is low end and heavy, pairing nicely with a sample of the usually solo Chinese stringed instrument, the guqin. Atop this driving soundscape, District Prime and Iron Wind grab the mic and get loud. Never ones to shy away from asserting their strong stand on controversial subjects, Primal Winds implore their audience to stand up and voice their own opinions. “Get Loud” opposes the suppression of free speech, censorship and controlled information, but does so with witty wordplay and a wealth of nerd and pop culture references. Iron Wind sums the song up best early on when he raps “F—- a banger, we make hits now!”
