Backburner "Run Wild" [SINGLE]

The Backburner crew take time out of their individual projects to combine for a new song in celebration of the 30th Anniversary of their label, Hand'Solo Records. The shit's so phat it had to be the first single for the label's celebratory compilation, Bassments of Badmen 4. Over a slamming boom bap beat courtesy of Peter Project, each of the 8 MCs brings their own unique style for a lesson in how hip hop should be done. A bit of humour, a lot of braggadocio, and all skills! Backburner run wild!

Written and performed by Chokeules, Jesse Dangerously, More Or Les, Timbuktu, Ghettosocks, Savilion, Wordburglar and Thesis Sahib

Produced by Peter Project
Cuts by Uncle Fester

Slap Slap by Swamp Thing

Toronto's Hip Hop Trio, Swamp Thing, return on Halloween with new album “Slap Slap”. Recorded in the summer of 2024 in Muskoka at 'The Cabin', and at Timbuktu's studio, 'FUN', in downtown Toronto, "Slap Slap" promises a unique and exhilarating listening experience.
As Chokeules describes the recording process, "Making the album was incredible as always. Starting with the trip up to northern Ontario to lay down the bulk of the album, and completing the record at the studio in Toronto. The process is always enjoyable, basically just a bunch of old friends trying to impress one another and make each other laugh."
Timbuktu adds, "Savillion is an early riser, so while me, and sometimes Chokeules were sleeping it off, Savillion would just slap out a few beats up there on the spot. A little later, when everybody was awake, we'd pick one and start writing and recording bars. It was a typical Swamp Thing recording process, but even more spontaneous this time.”
"This album is a fun-loving, face-punching, and forehead-scrunching experience," adds Chokeules. "The beats alone are enough to slap the fur off a wild yak, but add in the chemistry of longtime collaborators rapping their asses off, plus another batch of glorious cuts from the best DJ on the planet, and you've got a beast of an album. Slap Slap. Hopefully people just enjoy the hell out of it, and bump it loudly wherever a good time is being had."
Swamp Thing is a Toronto-based rap trio known for their unique blend of horrorcore and hip-hop. Their music is characterized by dark, gritty soundscapes, eerie lyrics, and a deep appreciation for B-movies. Comprised of Timbuktu,Chokeules, and Savillion, the group emerged in the early 2010s with their debut album, "Creature Feature." This album quickly gained attention for its horror-inspired themes and infectious beats. Their subsequent releases, including "Pray To Science" and "Horse Power," further solidified their reputation as pioneers of the horrorcore genre in Canada.
Beyond their music, Swamp Thing is celebrated for their live performances, which often feature theatrical elements and special effects. They have shared stages with notable artists in the hip-hop and horrorcore scenes, both domestically and internationally.

SWAMP THING x DANNY MILES - Running Circles

Toronto's three-headed rap monster, Swamp Thing (Timbuktu, Chokeules, & Savilion), have a ritual of delivering dark, b-movie inspired, heavy duty thunderclaps, every Halloween. This year they've teamed up with Danny Miles (July Talk, Tongue Helmet), to collectively release Golden Crab. The record was produced by Danny Miles who crafted a majority of the beats out of his Hamilton based home studio, The Pillow Fort, while Timbuktu, Savilion, and Chokeules recorded the album in Timbuktu's Toronto based studio, FUN.
Golden Crab features turntable cuts by DJ iRATE, and vocal features from Moka Only, Ghettosocks, Jesse Dangerously, Bazooka Joe, Wordburglar, and More or Les.
Golden Crab is a dark, grimy, Halloween party, with a resonating slap that gets bodies moving. It's a record in which the beats informed the writing, resulting in 13 cohesive spooky tracks, that equally highlight Danny's production and Swamp Thing's lyrical delivery. Chokeules explains, "The music is generally just inspired by our love of making music together, and trying to impress one another. The beats always inspire the vibe, plus whatever concepts they conjure." "Our process is all about writing music WE want to hear" Timbuktu adds, "...and trying to impress each other with the bars and the cuts and the beats."
This project is funded in part by FACTOR, the Government of Canada and Canada’s private radio broadcasters. Ce projet est financĂ© en partie par FACTOR, le gouvernement du Canada et les radiodiffuseurs privĂ©s du Canada.
