Legit x Rex Seshunz - Raising the Culture Part 3 - cuts by Uncle Fester

The first single and music video from this highly anticipated album is finally here ! 

Directed and edited by Legit(@buildingwithlegit) and filmed by Jordi LaForty(@jordilaforty), the visuals for ‘Raising the Culture Part 3’, brilliantly capture a look inside of Central Ontario’s largest and most ever-expanding urban underbelly. Shot between the rain drops on an overcast fall morning in downtown Barrie, giving the viewer a gritty look inside the city and at the streets from which the world renown emcee/producer duo originally hails. This Rex Seshunz(@rexseshunzhiphop) produced banger is an instant head-knocking classic. Painting a landscape of urgency and rebellious energy, laced with captivating sampling, a driving baseline and pulse stopping breaks  , onto which legendary East coast Dj and producer Uncle Fester(@fester902) launches into an anthem inspiring scratch chorus.

 ‘it’s what it sounds like / real life happening everyday’ . 

It is within this moment , amidst this perfect storm of sonic resonance and creative output,  that near-mythical underground legend big Legit(@buildingwithlegit) enters the mix. The veteran Canadian heavy-weight, steps forth from the shadows of a five year hiatus and unleashes a one of a kind , mind bending performance.  Instantly, the ‘Babylon Warchild’ co-frontman reaffirms to us - through the depths of his poetic composition and unmatched lyricism - as to why he is considered one of the most influential and hardest-hitting of the conscious emcees to emerge from below the radar in the past twenty years. Grimy baritone narratives take the listener up and down the same gutters, staircases, alleys and side streets that can form an unrelenting trap to so many who find themselves lost within the clutches. 

From his opening lines, 

“I Stay bombin’ and at the same time calm when I’m facing narrow odd situations”, 

To later lines referring to ‘close calls and escapes’ , there seems to be a nod towards the art-form of graffiti writing running throughout the song. In a greater sense he’s speaking on themes of poetic and artistic expression , how the purest forms are often times emerging from the darker side of the spectrum. The idea that from where the light is needed the most, you will find it there in the darkness doing the most work, breaking down the walls and barriers, the music itself is “Raising the Culture” so to speak. This is authentic hiphop in its purest form and stays true to the message which Legit has always brought to the table throughout his career.

‘Raising the Culture Part 3’ makes use of the scenery in Barrie’s, Allandale neighbourhood, helping to carry this theme into the visualization of the song. Most specifically highlighting some pieces from world famous street artists and graffiti writers ‘the Clandestinos’(@clandestinoart)

Mickey O'Brien - Orebody - The Remix Album

 

Nickel City blue collar MC Mickey O’Brien released his third solo album on September 29, 2023. Orebody delved deeper into his soul and psyche as he explored his own inner workings with each song representing a specific emotion. Juno-nominated master of the MPC Fresh Kils was once again along for the ride as the sole producer along with the addition of live instrumentation. But Mickey also loves a good remix, so he enlisted his many friends to contribute remixes for every song on the album, originally only available in full on the b-side of the Orebody cassette release, while a few were released alongside the originals for their singles. Contributions from Factor Chandelier, Uncle Fester, DJ Moves, The Dirty Sample and The 555 bring a different vibe to these songs with which you should already be familiar, often pushing into unexpected territory. Orebody - The Remix Album provides another opportunity for the uninitiated to discover the honest, introspective music of Mickey O’Brien while offering current fans a refreshing return to the rhymes of the original.
