Rellz Tha Postman "Written in the Stars" [ALBUM]

Nine tracks. Fifteen and a half minutes. That's not a sketch that's the album, and the discipline is the point. Rellz Tha Postman, who also records as Tha Cyborg, works out of Baltimore via the Flyah Ent. imprint, and Written in the Stars is built almost entirely from one-to-two-minute pieces: "Shake off the Fleas" at 1:25, "Both Ways" at 1:22, the title track at just over a minute. Only "Miss Green" and "12 O'clock" clear two minutes. His own description of the record leans on jazz, funk and soul infusions over classic hip-hop foundations, with "motivational lyricism and divine knowledge" as the stated intent an album meant to lift rather than document. Four of the nine tracks carry guests, all of them drawn from what the release calls Flock members: Moe Ager on "Blueberry and Bubba," Da Ha on "Miss Green," and both Eddie Vega and Christobal The Vision on "12 O'clock." A crew record, in other words, where the features are family rather than strategy. The sequencing moves like a suite "Righteous" opens it, the title track sits at the centre, and "All Roads Lead Home" closes. At this length a record can't afford a weak bar, and the brevity reads as deliberate: get in, say it, get out. It's available on a pay-what-you-want basis, which for a fifteen-minute album is a fair invitation.
