The Premonist "RETURN OF SPOOKYMAN" [EP]

The Premonist produces out of Phoenix, is part of the Ugli Business collective, and came up as a member and producer of The Society of Invisibles. RETURN OF SPOOKYMAN is six tracks and just under eleven minutes closer to a mini-album than a full record and he produced, mixed and arranged all of it himself. The shape is deliberate: a seventeen-second intro, four songs, a sixty-seven second outro. Sunn Sunn and Judgement appear twice, on "PEDIGREE" and "MARCH OF GRIEF"; 2UGLi takes "EVERYTHING IS UGLY" and returns for "ELVIRA" alongside Blizz From Juice. That's a tight cast for eleven minutes, and nobody gets a wasted bar. Reading the titles "March Of Grief," "Elvira," "Everything Is Ugly" and knowing the Ugli Business affiliation, this sits in horror-adjacent underground rap, though nothing in the credits says so outright. The one-minute closing statement and the fact that the record refuses to pass fifteen minutes suggest a project built as a mood piece rather than a statement. No mastering credit beyond the producer's own mix, no artwork credit, no label. Eighty releases into a catalogue that includes Violent Messiahs and Meet The Cannon Makers, The Premonist has stopped making records that explain themselves. This one is short, self-contained, and better for it.
