I've been bugging 8Greg2 for years now, he's made so many dope beats and then they just disappear. I told him to loop whatever he made out to about 3 or 4 minutes send me the file, then delete the beat. The original name for this project was Loops on top of Loops, but then he started actually sending me sequenced tracks, so I needed to come up with a title that reflected his aesthetic which is a mixture of smoke, mugs, and mystique. Once I started getting beats from him, I knew this was going to be my annual vinyl release and I had to reach out to my who's who of guests because I always try to get as many friends of mine as possible on vinyl because vinyl is just super dope to me. Truck North is one of my favorite rappers and I can't believe I got a feature from him, that's a beautiful thing.

5 Mugs of Doom is the result of making music with friends and that's one of the dopest thing in the world to me.

This album is inspired by AZ, with the luxuriousness of Serf's lush production instantly transporting me to that state of mind.

Serf posted that he was prepping a new beat tape, so I reached out to let him know that if he ever wanted a random verse/track on it, I'd be happy to drop something. He then told me that I was someone he wanted to work with, but I was so busy he figured he'd wait a while. The project was originally going to be just a handful of tracks, but then expanded to 11, with me calling on dope friends to contribute (JON?DOE, Jeff Spec and G Fam Black with verses, DJ Navin Johnson with cuts) and then sending it to my man Tali Rodriguez, the genius behind so much of what I do.

The title came about because executive producer JS Rivera, who some may know as Royalty OGTCH's son, had a little trouble saying my rap name. What better way to celebrate my first executive produced album than to have it unknowingly overseen/titled by a kid? Kids rule. I'm gonna send his dad a tape because being an executive producer is a big deal.

Once upon a time there was a man who sold hats. The guy found out that one of the people who bought a hat was a producer. The producer contacted him to be on a song or two, including a 20-minute posse cut. At some point, this producer became the engineer and friend of the guy selling hats. It turned out that the producer/engineer guy was also a really dope rapper, so they made an album with a coke rapper producer. At the same time, the producer/engineer guy and the hat seller guy were working on another album, that album became 12 Crows on a Wire, supposedly a snippet of conversation between the hat seller guy's sons. What you have here is the album where the producer/engineer/rapper provided beats for the hat seller.

Moral of the story: make sure you sell hats in case a really talented producer/engineer/rapper buys one.
