Just surviving, paying bills, and trying to find the funds to get an album done. But striving for greatness out of pocket guarantees trials and tribulations. Almost at the top of the mountain, but being rich and glamorous isn't necessarily the success they're striving for. Juno-winning producer Classified contributes a beat of bass-heavy drums and plentiful piano while Sipset teammate LXVNDR lays down the crucial chorus and a dope second verse.

Tachichi & Gordski are "Cucumber Cool"

 

What does one do when they’re cool as a cucumber? They write a song about it, of course! So that’s what Tachichi did for his 2014 project with DJ and producing partner Gordski. Previously only released on Bandcamp for a limited time, the duo drop for streaming their second single from Felt Lovejoy in celebration of the 10 year anniversary of the original EP. Tachichi breaks down what makes him cucumber cool with a hard, braggadocio battle rap and a “surgical flow” over a crunchy Gordski beat, while Yasmeen Borden and Jay O Smooth join him for the catchy chorus. The latter also provides back ups on the verses. “Cucumber Cool” as described by T, more truthfully now than ever before, is “future funk that’s fashionably late.”

Found Money is the new collaboration between looming luminary LXVNDR and longterm veteran Tachichi, both highlights of the Halifax hip hop scene. The album is an eclectic mix of sounds, including throwback boom bap, slow jams, horrorcore, club bangers, and even a touch of reggae, the production provided by longtime Tachichi collaborator Moves, newest Snowgoons member BoFaat, the legendary Buck 65, plus Kulya, Dirty Dane, DK the Producer, and Trobiz. It’s all held together by the confident delivery and bold braggadocio of the two emcees, touching on topics as diverse as getting high, women’s issues, politics, suckers, and an ode to their peoples. And speaking of peoples, LXVNDR and Tachichi bring along Jay’Mila, Paollo, Cee!!!!!!!!!, and Ghettosocks to share in the dope bars and flow flexing. LXVNDR & Tachichi - Clap Cuz Ya Cold (single)

 

 

On the chorus of his new single with LXVNDR, Tachichi raps, “To the honeys in the back, make it clap cuz ya cold / this is for the g’z who ain’t breakin’ no codes.” And that about sums it up. “Clap Cuz Ya Cold” will have the honeys groovin’ and the heads of the true g’z nodding. Halifax producer Dirty Dane provides a smooth backdrop drenched in synth and skittering club-friendly drums that allows the two MCs to flex their flows. Lyrically it’s strictly braggadocio as LXVNDR opens with a modern, sing-song delivery that masterfully rides the beat before Tachichi jumps in with the high speed delivery he was well known for in his younger years, their verses bookended by a simple but silky chorus. Another ice cold composition blowing in from north of the border. Please clap.

For their second single, LxVNDR and Tachichi team with German producer and newest member of Snowgoons, BoFaatBeatz, who provides a beat with heavy reggae influence thanks in large part to that thick bass groove and the vocal sample in the chorus. Tachichi, a rap vet rocking stages since the mid-90s as a young Little T, kicks off “One For The Smoke” bigging up the golden age of rap, knocking the modern styles, and broadly boasting, while relative newcomer LxVNDR styles on ‘em with big braggadocio, shit talk, and a sprinkling of knowledge. This one is for the hip hop heads. As Tachichi proclaims on the chorus, the vibe is out of control!
