Epic "Lethal Test Pressings" [SINGLE]

Since returning to rap after almost 15 years of semi-retirement, Epic has been extremely prolific. "Lethal Test Pressings" is the first single from his upcoming new album, Heater in My Truck II, his third new album in as many years and the sequel to his 2003 vinyl-only album. On “Lethal Test Pressings”, Epic honours the most sacred of hip hop formats, the vinyl release, and specifically the rare test pressing. Over a chill but groovy drum- and guitar-driven boom bap beat by legendary producer DJ Moves (Hip Club Groove, Len), Epic drops lyrical references to hip hop and Canada delivered in his unique Prairie rap flow. Drop another bomb on them, Epic!

DJ Moves presents Bass, Breaks & VHS Tapes

About Bass, Breaks & VHS Tapes

Bass, Breaks & VHS Tapes is the latest beat tape from DJ Moves, providing him with an outlet for his output of faster beats—ranging from 107-130 BPM—that none of his usual MC collaborators were selecting. And as the album title suggests, Moves raided his massive VHS collection for music and vocal samples to create these songs.  Primarily instrumentals, Bass, Breaks & VHS Tapes does havre a few guest appearances, with features from frequent vocal contributors Tachichi and Buck 65, plus a fair share of singing from Electric City Underground’s Kirk Comstock, who was working on some of his own faster sing-song electro songs around the same time. The result is an album of funky, uptempo hip hop and electro ideal for both cardboard and dance floor.

About DJ Moves

With 60+ albums under his belt, and at least half self-released on his own Low Pressure label, Moves is a living legend and true Canadian classic. A DJ since ’91 and producing by the following year, he’s also known to kick the occasional R-Tard rap. Moves cut his teeth as a founding member of Truro, Nova Scotia rap group Hip Club Groove, best known for their video for “Shootin’ the Gift,” an early blueprint for Trailer Park Boys by director Mike Clattenburg, and later toured extensively as the DJ for wonderful one-hitters Len (“Steal My Sunshine”). Along the way, he touched down for significant stays in Halifax, Toronto and Vancouver, before ending up back in his hometown of Truro, Nova Scotia. But wherever he puts down roots, he and his Halfway House Studio proceed to have a heavy and positive impact on the local hip hop scene. Any list of rappers for which he has produced albums must include Tachichi, Fatt Matt, Cee!!!!!!!!, Birdapres, Josh Martinez, and Governor Bolts, plus his own consistent compilation output.

Mickey O'Brien - Orebody - The Remix Album

Nickel City blue collar MC Mickey O’Brien released his third solo album on September 29, 2023. Orebody delved deeper into his soul and psyche as he explored his own inner workings with each song representing a specific emotion. Juno-nominated master of the MPC Fresh Kils was once again along for the ride as the sole producer along with the addition of live instrumentation. But Mickey also loves a good remix, so he enlisted his many friends to contribute remixes for every song on the album, originally only available in full on the b-side of the Orebody cassette release, while a few were released alongside the originals for their singles. Contributions from Factor Chandelier, Uncle Fester, DJ Moves, The Dirty Sample and The 555 bring a different vibe to these songs with which you should already be familiar, often pushing into unexpected territory. Orebody - The Remix Album provides another opportunity for the uninitiated to discover the honest, introspective music of Mickey O’Brien while offering current fans a refreshing return to the rhymes of the original.

LxVNDR x Tachichi - Neck Breaker Boogie (single)

“We got the neck breaking, club shaking beat for this year,” proclaims Halifax rap vet Tachichi on the chorus for “Neck Breaker Boogie”, the first single from Found Money, his upcoming collaboration album with looming Maritime luminary LxVNDR. The beat in question is heavily focused on banging drums plus a couple of piano keys and some subtle sampled sounds, courtesy of the legendary Moves of Hip Club Groove and Len fame. Yeah, it’s a certified neck breaker. And LxVNDR and Tachichi use this club shaking beat to deliver vicious punchline braggadocio and battle raps. Or, according to LxVNDR, “We get on the mic, make ‘em taste the filth…” All that’s left to do is free your filthy mind and your ass will follow.

DJ Moves - Pam Grier's Kids

Pam Grier may have no kids of her own, but if you came up watching Grier’s flicks, you were raised on Pam. Like Grier, DJ Moves has been in the rap game for while — 30+ years to be exact — and has influenced generations with his beats and cuts. The platinum-selling DJ and producer returns with a host of hip hop talent under his wing, including LXVNDR, Blaq Poet, Tachichi, Ghettosocks, Zagnif Nori, Cee!!!!!! and more to create a 12-track boom bap-fest that’s sure to leave a legacy for generation to come. Thank you, Aunt Pam and Uncle Moves.

DJ Moves x Stinkin Rich x Jeff Spec x Ghettosocks - StankinSpeckledSocks

At first glance, one might think the title of this track is about some funky-a$$ socks, but it’s really a clever combo of Stinkin Rich, Jeff Spec and Ghettosocks, who band together on this track to wreck shop. DJ Moves provides another ill-boding track for the emcees to do their thang on (one of them even says the beat gives them the heebie-jeebies) and they do it to the fullest. The hook may warn people not to believe everything they see, but believe your ears — this track is dope.

DJ Moves x Blaq Poet - Loyalty

Queensbridge, New York emcee Blaq Poet is no stranger to droppin’ dope bars over dark beats. A veteran of late-'80s/early-'90s golden age hip-hop, Blaq Poet has been bringing the smoke since 1987’s Bridge Wars, and he delivers with no holds barred on DJ Moves’ ominous piano-laden track, “Loyalty.” The tracks fires warning shots about friends and family members “smiling to your face, but wanting to take your place.” This is reality rap without glorification to the fullest.

DJ Moves - Respect feat Zagnif Nori

R-E-S-P-E-C-T. Find out what it means to DJ Moves and NY-based emcee, Zagnif Nori. Zagnif wants respect put on his name, and we’d even argue it should be in all caps. He kicks off the joint by stating he’s not concerned with money, only respect — a philosophy that’s a diamond in the rough in today’s materialized rap game. DJ Moves provides a foreboding boom bap beat and vicious cuts over the hook in true Moves fashion. The result is all killer, no filler. ‘Nuff respect due.
